Caring for the Sick and Afflicted

Ryan came down with the flu on Sunday. I'm not sure if it's brand name flu or just generic flu, but it doesn't really matter to me. I find that you can pick up designer flus at any number of discount places if you just know how to look for it. My favorite technique is a quick lick of doorknobs and countertops--works like a charm.

This morning I went to the local pharmacy to pick up some supplies for my darling infested husband, including the following staples:

  • Two DVDs from RedBox to watch
  • Daytime cold and flu medicine
  • Nighttime cold and flu medicine
  • Sore throat lozenges
  • Cough drops
  • Neosporin (to rub in the nose and on the throat)
  • Puffs Plus with lotion
  • Cranberry juice
  • Nighttime baby wash with lavender
  • Reese's pieces
  • A two-pound bag of M&Ms
  • A big bag of candy pumpkins made out of the candy corn stuff
  • Two little skull tea light holders
  • Gum
He should be better in no time.

I'm going to copy your list and head to the store. I want to be prepared should we become infested.

Wow, he's a lucky man! The chocolate is for you right - to get through all the nurturing.

I think the two skull tea light holders should really help. I hope he feels better soon.

You learned the art of sick nursing from Mom. She is the best. I try to explain to Natalie how awesome Mom was at it, hoping she'd get the hint that I want her to do the same for me when I'm sick. So far, not so much, but there has been improvement.

I think I'm planning on getting sick so you can take care of me!

I just discovered the drug store in our little town. It's like a real, no kidding, old fashioned drug store. With cheap ice cream sodas, shakes, cones, malts, knick knacks, penny(!)candy, books and pretty much everything. They even have a tall counter with retro stools to sit on while you share a sundae with your sweetheart. It rocks. (I just realized that this comment has nothing to do with your post. Get well soon!! There.)

poor little bunny. It sounds like a brand name flu to me.

What does the neosporin on the throat do? Hope Ryan is feeling better soon! The kids all have the flu and I am crossing my fingers and washing my hands so I don't get it.

You are a saint. Ryan is lucky to have you! I've heard that candy corns fix whatever ails you. Get better soon Ryan!

brilliant list here. i think i would have to add grapes and pickles to it for myself. for some reason those always sound good when i am under the weather.

hope your guy feels better soon!

I find the constant-state-of-sleep-deprivation and your-snot-nosed-toddler-just-backwashed-in-your-water-bottle-and-you-didn't-know-and-drank-from-it-anyway combo to be pretty powerful.

And you're right, candy corn is one of the best flu remedies around. Should be a medicine closet staple...

I also have the flu, had I know how to take care of myself I would have bought more chocolate and less Tylenol Cold and Flu, which by the way is only marginally effective for those of us suffering right now. Also have Ryan try the Puffs with Vicks, I alternate with the Puffs with lotion, been through one box or each since Saturday. Best of luck, Robin

I'll have to tell my son James your recipe for getting the flu. The child keeps faking this cough thinking that he'll get to stay home...He'll be licking counters and doorknobs in no time! I hope Ryan gets well soon!

You can be sure it wasn't the swine flu. I'll forward an email I received which compares symptoms of S.F. with the common cold. Also, according to Leslie's pediatrician friend, it's not a bad thing to get the s.f. this time around to build your natural immunity to it before it mutates and gets stronger.

I am so sorry Ryan doesn't feel well! The flu is the WORST! ShaLayne just went through the H1N1 with strep mixed in. (Lucky Huh?) She was a good sport, and even got to pay tribute to Michael Jackson by wearing gloves and a mask! Get well soon!

Nighttime cold medicine, huh? it doesn't make you all jittery and weird and semi-high in the middle of the night? Like with dreams where you have to bottle endless amounts of those rings that hold the milk jug lids on or something very bad will happen to you but your dream never reveals to you exactly what that bad thing is you just have the definite feeling that you better not stop collecting those milk lid rings, all night long? No? Hmmm...must be just me.
